All Things Red and Blue

The University of Pennsylvania Band

The Penn Band on the road after Penn Football secured a come-from-behind 20-19 victory over the nationally-ranked Tigers in Old Nassau last season

The Penn Band was founded in 1897 and ever since has been one of the University’s most progressive student-led traditions. The organization is a part of the Department of Athletics at the University of Pennsylvania; like most of the other 60+ performing arts groups on the Penn Campus, the Penn Band has no affiliation with any academic department and is sponsored by University Life. The organization today is almost 120 members-strong and stands among the largest and most active student-led organizations on-campus, rehearsing and performing upwards of 100+ times during the academic year and serving as the guardians of All Things Red and Blue.

Scramble!

We’re not your ordinary college marching band.

If you were part of a marching band in high school, you can basically take all that discipline and regimented marching you’ve learned and throw it out the nearest window…

Rooooooadtrip!

In 1901, The Penn Band became the first university band to travel on the road for an intercollegiate football game. Ever since, Travel has been a major part of the Penn Band ExperienceTM.

Today, the group travels regularly to away football and basketball games, including the NCAA Tournament and across the Greater Philadelphia Region.
